Virginia Woolf - Three Guineas
New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, 1938. The true first edition was originally published on the Hogarth Press in the United Kingdom the same year (1938). This copy is the First American Edition. Dust jacket by Vanessa Bell. Hardcover. 8vo. Salmon colored boards with gold lettering. Publisher's top-stain is somewhat faded (see photos). Some speckled discoloration to the lower text-block edge (see photos). Illustrated with 5 striking black-and-white photographic reconstructions including: A General, Heralds, A University Procession, A Judge, and An Archbishop. 285pp. Overall fair condition. Some foxing to pastedown pages and endpapers. Minor scratching and misc. wear to text-block edge. The dust jacket has fortunately not been price clipped (retaining it's original$2.50 price on the front inner flap). The dust jacket spine is missing 2" off it's upper edge (see photos). Creasing, chipping, discoloration, and all that entropy that comes with a dust jacket of this age.
