Philip Gilbert Hamerton - Etching and Etchers (lacking illustrated plates)
London: Macmillan, 1868. First edition, first printing. Hardcover. Royal 8vo. 1/4 blue calf binding over brown cloth with gilt lettering and ornamentation. Textblock edges gilt with red accent. Blue endpapers. xxiii, 354 pp. General wear, rubbing to exterior spine leather. Covers are clean and still rather sharp with vivid coloration and relief. Rear free endpaper has a firm diagonal crease, annotation along upper edge recto identifying book as copy 546 alongside 1869 date and author's name in cursive script (though I very much doubt it was written by his own hand, I can't refute the possibility). Endpapers have begun splitting vertically along the front and rear hinges (over intact linen super). Occasional small specks of foxing occur, affecting the preliminary pages, primarily. Unhappily, this copy has been shorn of its plate illustrations. The book's binding is still very firm, a testament to the high quality of its construction, though the first edition of this classic treatise, here exemplified, has become hard to find in any condition.
