Stanley Vestal - Kit Carson: The Happy Warrior of the Old West
Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1928. Reprint. Hardcover. 8vo. 297 pp. Red cloth binding. Good condition. Former owner's name in ink on front and rear endpapers. No other markings. Dust jacket is appropriately rugged, missing chunk of lower spine and battered along periphery.
Vestal's classic biography includes pages of imaginary conversation written in vernacular and some quips that might not fly today ("If Spaniards wasn't made for shootin,' what are rifles for?" - page 228) but he doesn't stint on details otherwise expurgated from the record. Just buy the book, OK?
